COCC inspires young minds through blue carbon activities at Summer Nature Camp 2026

On 28 April 2026, Coastal Oceanography and Climate Change Research Center (COCC) participated in the Summer Nature Camp 2026, organized by the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Natural History Museum.

During the activity, children explored the fascinating world of blue carbon ecosystems, including mangrove forests, seagrass meadows, and coral reefs. Through interactive lectures, educational games, worksheets, and hands-on scientific experiments, participants learned how these coastal ecosystems naturally capture and store carbon, helping to reduce the impacts of climate change while supporting marine life and healthy coastlines.

Beyond classroom learning, participants took part in field training using the internationally recognized Seagrass-Watch monitoring protocol, gaining practical experience in assessing seagrass meadows. The students also visited the Seagrass Learning Center on Koh Pu, Krabi Province, where they explored coastal habitats firsthand and observed the vital role that seagrass ecosystems play in supporting marine biodiversity and maintaining healthy coastal environments.

By combining scientific knowledge with hands-on field experience, the camp encouraged students to connect with nature and better understand the importance of biodiversity conservation. The activity also highlighted how young people can contribute to protecting marine ecosystems and promoting the sustainable management of Thailand’s coastal resources.

The 4th EGAT Biodiversity Rangers Youth Camp reflects COCC’s ongoing commitment to advancing environmental education and nurturing future leaders who will help conserve Thailand’s marine biodiversity for generations to come.
